ON BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST, BRIEFLY

“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.” Jesus Christ, Matthew 12:31

With regard to this sin, John Bunyan somberly warned –-

"Thou mayest do that in half a quarter of an hour, from the evil of which thou mayest not be delivered for ever and ever." John Bunyan, The Barren Fig Tree

Scholars, as opposed to regenerate Christians, have debated for centuries over what this sin is exactly, but to the regenerate Christian this sin and its nature are easily identified. The Holy Spirit HIMSELF, against whom this sin is committed, and who indwells those who are immune from this sin, bears witness to the nature of this sin in his elect, especially those who have a bit of maturity in the Lord Jesus. He does so by his own internal testimony in the spirits of those he indwells, and by his written Word.

For instance, for a few classic examples of the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost you need only look at the lives of certain Bible characters, such as Esau, Judas, Ananias and Sapphira, and others. Moreover, for a modern example of the SPIRIT of the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, you need merely examine the article I’ve warned about in my exposé Bible Scholars Blaspheme Jesus Christ.

This article, referenced in my above exposé, absolutely, positively REEKS of the SPIRIT of the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. If, after reading that article, you disagree, or do not have as strong an opinion on it as I do, then you need to be born again, for the Holy Spirit does not indwell you, for the Holy Spirit HIMSELF testifies that that article positively REEKS of the SPIRIT of the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.

I have no special revelation as to whether those who produced, participated in, and defended that article have blasphemed the Holy Ghost or not, but it would not surprise me in the SLIGHTEST if one or more of those who produced, participated in, and defended that article have, in fact, committed the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. It would not surprise me in the SLIGHTEST, for the unforgivable sin is a sin that is committed far more frequently than the unregenerate of this world imagine.

"There is in the world, a thing like grace, that is not... As there is a thing like grace, which is not, so there is a sin, called the sin against the Holy Ghost, from which there is no redemption; and this sin doth more than ordinarily befall professors... Wherefore, when we know that a man hath sinned this sin, we are not to pray for him, or to have compassion on him." John Bunyan, The Strait Gate

Therefore, be warned...

As Bunyan noted, you may commit the unforgivable sin in a moment of time. Esau did so; Judas did so; Cain did so; Ananias and Sapphira did so; Saul did so, and so have countless others throughout the parade of history. There are people treading this earth right now who are shackled with unforgiveness for eternity, with no possibility of ever receiving saving repentance, for they have, in the dark recesses of their hearts, committed the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.

This sin, however, cannot be committed by accident. It takes a great measure of premeditation. It takes a systematic devolution of heart and mind, with many warnings in the conscience which are ignored and spurned. Of course, these warnings are not SPECIFIC warnings about the sin against the Holy Ghost, but rather are warnings against light, warnings against evil, warnings against wrong, and so forth and so on. The man who has committed the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost rarely knows he has done so. He will find that out on the day of judgment, although his inability to repent here and now, if he ever on occasion seeks repentance, like Esau, Judas, and others, is an accurate foreboding of the certainty of his eternal doom, and therefore he may have a sense of his eternal damnation long before he ever tastes death, but as to his knowledge of actually having committed this sin, he almost never knows, at least not until his life nears the end, and in most cases not until he's gone.

Now, a word to the tenderhearted... To wit, if you are presently AGONIZING -- and I stress the word AGONIZING -- over whether or not you have committed the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, you may be infallibly certain that you have NOT. It isn't possible (I know whereof I speak). The man who commits the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost never AGONIZES over it, even though he may seek repentance afterward, as Esau and Judas and others did, but there is a vast difference between the two, which I won't go into now. Simply KNOW that if you are AGONIZING over whether or not you have committed the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, you may be INFALLIBLY CERTAIN that you have NOT.

On the other hand, if you profess to be a Christian and are yet lukewarm about such things, you yourself are a prime candidate for this sin, for low thoughts of Jesus Christ, which utterly permeate the article I mentioned above, are the sine qua non of the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, especially when perpetrated by those who profess to be Christians. In fact, no one is closer or riper for committing this sin than the man who professes to be a Christian who is yet unregenerate and enmeshed in the learning of this world. No one. The scholars who profess to be Christians and who yet produced, participated in, and defend that article are indelible proof of what I say, at least for anyone with an OUNCE of true spiritual discernment. Again, if you have problems coming to this conclusion, get born again, for if you have problems coming to this conclusion, the Holy Spirit does not indwell you. Period.

For the rest of you, be likewise warned...

If you are not actively testifying of Jesus Christ the Righteous, Jesus Christ the SINLESS, by your word and by your life, in the POWER of the Holy Ghost, then you are his enemy -- I say, you are the ENEMY of Jesus Christ if you are not ACTIVELY his witness, as Jesus himself revealed --

"He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad." Jesus Christ, Matthew 12:30

Backslider beware (I know whereof I speak), you of all people are on the most precarious ground you can POSSIBLY imagine. Another wise proverb from John Bunyan is wholly apropos here --

"There are branches in Christ, in Christ's body mystical, which is his church, his vineyard, that bear not fruit, wherefore the hand of God is to take them away... This therefore must be your end, although you are planted in the garden of God; for the barrenness and unfruitfulness of your hearts and lives you must be cut off, yea, rooted up, and cast out of the vineyard." John Bunyan, The Barren Fig Tree

Whoever you are, your time is short... shorter than you can POSSIBLY imagine, for the time of the consummation of all things and the day of Jesus Christ is at hand.

Would you be born again? GENUINELY born again?

Then take wise counsel -- pick up a Bible based on the Traditional Text -- in English, the ONLY VALID Bible based on the Traditional Text is the King James Bible -- and then read with SOLEMNITY, beginning in the Gospels preferably, and beg Jesus Christ to reveal himself to you, and give him no rest until he does, for if you read the TRUE written Word of God, you will find the Lord of Glory, even Jesus Christ, moving upon the face of the waters in its pages, just as he moved upon the face of the waters when he walked across the Sea of Galilee, and if you follow the advice just given, and if you persist, Jesus Christ HIMSELF will verily MANIFEST HIMSELF to you (for he HIMSELF promises to do this for those who truly heed this advice), just as he MANIFESTED HIMSELF to his disciples when he moved upon the face of the waters as he walked across the stormy sea some two thousand years ago, and just as he did with ME not too many years ago, and just as he has done with a FEW others from day to day since that time, in this very generation, and just as he will do for YOU if -- IF -- you heed my advice, and if -- IF -- you persist therein, for he who promised is FAITHFUL. John 14:21, Matthew 14:25-27
